Internship Interview Experience

I am an MSCS student at the University of Texas at Dallas(2019–2021). I have penned down my experience of internship search for Data Science, Machine Learning, and software development roles.

I want to share my experience to let others know what kind of process to expect from which company. This is crucial as data science is the most difficult field to get into, and one that has most candidates and not enough jobs. Hence putting your best foot forward and being prepared for what can be asked becomes very crucial.

A data scientist can be asked SQL, data manipulation in pandas, data structures coding, take home ML challenge, ML interview to check concepts, ML coding to check algorithm knowledge, statistics, case study, behavioral. I have noted down below all the companies I interviewed for and what kind of rounds they had. Hope it helps someone who is preparing for their interviews.

  1. Airbnb(Software intern, September 2019): I had applied for it on LinkedIn, and got contacted by the recruiter with the hacker rank coding challenge link.

The coding challenge had only 1 question in 1 hour. It was of a medium level, and I was able to pass all test cases within time.

Second round: Two 45-minute coderpad rounds back to bach with different people. One question was backtracking and another related to Airbnb. Both were very challenging questions. I did not pass this round.
